2026
Special District Vacancy (Regular Member and Alternate Member)
Pursuant to Government Code Section 56332, the Independent Special District Selection Committee serves as the appointing authority for LAFCo’s special district representatives. The Regular Member, Non-Enterprise, seat and the Alternate Member, Non-Enterprise or Enterprise, seat are scheduled to expire on April 30, 2026, with the new term of office running from May 1, 2026 to April 30, 2030.
The presiding officer (Board Chair/President) of each independent special district may nominate any current board member serving on an independent special district within Trinity County. Staff members are not eligible. A nominee may run for both the Regular Member and Alternate Member seats. Formal board action to nominate a candidate is not required under the statute; however, districts may choose to confirm nominations through board action if desired.
1. Authorized Signature. The Nomination Form must be completed and signed by the district’s presiding officer or the presiding officer’s alternate as designated by the governing body.
2. Candidate Information. A candidate information form or a one-page statement of qualifications may be submitted with the nomination. This is voluntary and will be kept on file at the LAFCo office and made available upon request.
3. Submission Deadline. Nominations must be received no later than April 20, 2026, at 5:00 PM. Please submit nomination materials to: Trinity LAFCo, 670 9th Street, Suite 202, Arcata, CA 95521, or email to the Commission Clerk amber@trinitylafco.org.
4. Appointment Process. If only one eligible nomination is received for a seat, the nominee will be deemed appointed. If multiple nominations are received, LAFCo will conduct outreach to special districts to either 1) Convene a meeting of the Independent Special District Selection Committee, requiring a quorum of district to be present, or 2) Conduct a mail-ballot election, if a meeting is not feasible.
